An Introduction to Daoist Meditation

Maintaining Harmony Through
the Cultivation of Character

In this 2-day workshop, Jeff Reid (Daoist name: Zi He), a long-time student and teacher of Daoism, will introduce participants to the major focuses of Daoist meditation practices. In his description of the workshop, Jeff writes:

‘This workshop will introduce participants to the major focuses of Daoist meditation practices by emphasizing the building of correct foundation for deepening one’s internal work. In this course participants will focus on establishing the three fundamental steps necessary in deepening one’s seated practice: harmonizing the body/correcting posture, harmonizing the heart, and harmonizing the breath. Each of these aspects will be discussed in depth through lecture and will be explored and experienced via applied theory in seated practice.’

Jeff will also provide participants with instruction in standing meditation practice, as well as an introduction to Daoist practices for cultivating bodily health as part of a harmonious way of life. In addition, the workshop will introduce participants to the Classic of Tranquility (Qing Jing Jin 清静经), a Daoist text on the regulation of emotional harmony and the cultivation of clarity, quiescence, and stillness. This will comprise of lectures and extended discussion of the text.
